k1ng: The Hills Have Eyes is a great horror movie. I have yet to see Wes Craven's original 1977 version, but that is soon to change. Seeing this movie in a popular and crowded movie theater on a Saturday night has reminded me why I usually try to avoid doing that. Despite my bad theatrical experience, I still really enjoyed the movie. It was gory and had some very well-designed freaks that would scare me in real life even if they weren't trying to kill me.

	k1ng: Transamerica tells about a story about a pre-op transsexual who meets and goes on a road trip with her son a week before she undergoes her sexual reassignment surgery. It was an good story, and it was interesting to see life through the eyes of a transsexual. I think I would have liked it better if it was a documentary, but I still enjoyed the film as a drama.

sulfur: I really enjoyed Keira (Elizabeth) and Matthew Macfadyen (Mr. Darcy) characters as they go back and forth for loathing one another to love. Great story, acting, drama, romance. I wish we still lived in a era where men bowed and ladies cursed.

k1ng: I love great dialog and Pride & Prejudice (based on the book by Jane Austen) was full of it. I completely agree with sulfur's review. Seeing this movie makes me wish that more people took the time and effort to speak more good-like and stuff.

Being that this was a musical there was a lot of singing--and that's okay--but when they started recycling songs I lost interest. I imagine (and hope) the stage production is much better.

k1ng: Bubble is a very mellow movie about 3 toy factory workers. Their lives are depressing, yet still interesting enough to look at for an hour and 13 minutes. Steven Soderbergh did a good job by getting this released in theaters and on dvd at the same time. I hope this trend catches on.

dickle: This movie is far from perfect, but probably my favorite war film. Samuel Fuller writes and directs this epic that is set during WWII. A small unit, of the company, tries to survive some of the major battles of the war. As it turns out the movie is more about the people and how they react to war then about war itself. The movie ends wonderfully, and Mark Hamill isn't that bad as a soldier, opposed to a jedi.

k1ng: The Motorcycle Diaries is a beautifully shot film the depicts about a year of the lives of Che Guevara and his cousin as they go on a long road trip through South America. This is before Che became a famous revolutionary leader. Gael García Bernal is easily one of my favorite actors and he did a great job in this movie. I really liked the "live photos" at the end of the movie that shows all the people that they came in contact with during their trip. Viva la revolution!

fkxik: A sadistic tale of violence on both sides of the law picking up where House of 1000 Corpses left off. The look and tone are especially well done, although the story isn't nearly as great it doesn't really need to be as the focus is on the characters and their victims.
Commentary: Less technical than I'd have liked but Zombie does explain a lot about his reasoning for doing things and tells a few anecdotes about happenings on the set.

fkxik: An aquatic documentarian seeks revenge on a shark while dealing with his relationships with his crew, colleagues, and family which now includes his newly discovered son. Although the film features heavy visual stylization and even a couple action segments it remains dialog centric and is excellently supported by its ensamble cast.
Commentary: Insightful, informative, and humorous, one of the better commentaries I've heard. Also worth noting is that it's recorded in the same restaurant the film is written in and I can see how that location would be helpful to conjure up some of the director and cowriter's memories and feelings about the film, but the background noise is slightly distracting.

dickle: Wes Anderson does another immense comedy that will keep you amused, while throwing in an underlining of morality. The music is pleasant too.

dickle: This is a musical about a bed and breakfast in Japan, but somehow all the guests seem to end up dead. The songs are pretty diverse, so it isn't J-Pop throughout the entire film. The movie is fun, and hilarious. Nice clay-mation scenes too. It is strange how a musical could come from a prestigious horror directer, Takashi Miike, but the film is rather morbid in a playful way.

fkxik: A very funny musical that's part horror, part comedy, part romance and a bit of claymation thrown in for good measure. Bizarre, uplifting, and unlike anything I've ever seen before.

dickle: A lone wolf hit man is hired to kill a man in a night club, but the task doesn't turn out to be as easy as expected. This film has a nice classic gangster feel and doesn't feel forced (like The Godfather). It shows some rather interesting scenes and sequences, like the interogation process. The end of the movie first comes off as confusing and suprising, but afterward you are sure that you saw something pretty satisfying.

fkxik: The story is what really makes this a great movie. Everything else is good as well, but all other elements are secondary to the events and situations shown and do their job supporting the story with no major visible flaws. Except Scarlett Johansson, she has a bit of a man voice, but she makes up for it.

k1ng: Surprisingly, Match Point is my first Woody Allen film. The story was great, suspenseful, and overall, very enjoyable. I will definitely look into some of Woody's other work.

k1ng: The more French movies I see, the more I like them. Fat Girl is mostly a coming of age story about the youngest sister in a somewhat-typical french family. Its hard to talk about what I liked about the film without giving away too much. The ending is fitting, although a bit messed up.

fkxik: The film feels like a brouchure for rugby for cripples. The sport seems violent and dangerous, and usually appeals to the people that were doing things of a similar 'extreme' nature in the first place when they became injured. Also features a traitorous subplot about the Canadian coach.
Murderball held my attention well enough, but it's definitely inferior to some of the other high profile documentaries of last year.

k1ng: Murderball gives us an interesting look into the lives of several quadrapalegic rugby players. This game is definitely hardcore but seems like a lot of fun.

k1ng: Death in Gaze is a documentary that tells the story of 3 Palestinian children growing up during the Israeli and Palestinian conflict taking place in the Middle East. During the filming of this documentary James Miller, the director, is shot and killed while holding a white flag. It's amazing to see these young children exposed to all of this violence and hear them talk about it so nonchalantly.

fkxik: Twin gynocologists deal with both physical and mental sexual abmormalities in their patients and their relationships with them. Overall I was disappointed, but even a substandard Cronenberg film is superior to alot of whats out there.

dickle: The movie seems to lack a backbone to move it along the story line, and this makes it boring, confusing, and just crap. The movie drops off at the end, with no real resolution to any problem. There is only one good scene featuring a dream with the twins connected together and the girl friend gnawing them apart. It is the only part worth remembering.

fkxik: A French family is terrorized and secrets from the past are brought up in this excellent example of balancing style and substance. Well done.

dickle: The focus of the movie shifts several times from who is making these tapes, to why are these people making tapes, and finishes with how it affects the family. Some scenes seem to drag on for too long, but the camera angles make scenes have a really good look to them. The movie came off as a something that starts with a stale feel, but ends up being very unique.

k1ng: The moment Caché ended I knew that it was great, but my fondness for it has grown over the last couple of days. The long, steady shots that don't point out almost-necessary happenings are great, but probably not for the average movie-goer. Despite being a relatively low-key thriler, there were several scenes that were shocking. Overall, Caché is a great film.

dickle: Roman Polanski does a great job with directing this movie, and makes a rather simple and perhaps boring story intresting, but if I wanted to see a Polanski movie I would watch Rosemary''s Baby. A good pick though.

fkxik: A nice blend of comedy and action in this unusual samurai story about recovering a stolen sword. There are alot of interesting stylistic effects which keep the film fresh and when combined with the humor help to really make it a unique experience, especially for the samurai genre.

dickle: If you like samurai movies, nose bleed jokes, gay side kicks, and half naked gamblers (and we all know that I do) this movie is for you. The DVD also includes some really interesting special features, but I''ve only sat through the making of the movie.

fkxik: One of the best action flicks of last year, and certainly Jet Li's best western movie. Although the characters and plot are a little far-fetched, the acting is well done. And of course the fight scenes and stunt work are fantastic.

The soundtrack by Massive Attack is also worth mentioning.

dickle: My favorite action movie of last year. This is a coming of age story about a man who is already an adult with a little bit of brutality thrown in. Even though the story is unbelievable I still enjoyed its characters.

fkxik: Hostel is both naked and nasty, but neither go as far as I would have liked. Still a pretty solid film. Bonus points for having Takashi Miike and a Wickerman tune.

k1ng: I've been excited about Eli Roth's filmaking since my first viewing of Cabin Fever. He certainly has talent. While Hostel is a solid movie, I didn't like the story line as much as I had hoped to. That said, I still cannot wait for Roth's next project, whatever it may be.

Side note: I would compare Eli Roth and Rob Zombie not in style, but in capabilities and genres. They both have two great horror films, with each of their recent sophomore films being more hardcore and less comedic than their firsts.
